Bouldering Videos from Nova Scotia

Weather

Essentially, Halifax is a spring-summer-fall bouldering location. The weather between November and April is highly unpredictable, during some winters, locals have been able to climb in T-shirts in January and February and historically a great deal of development of inland areas has occurred during this time.

Visitors should not count on it!

Summer temperatures range from daytime highs of 20° - 25° C (68° - 77° F) to evening lows of 10° - 14° C (50° - 57° F). Close to the ocean temperatures can be cooler depending on wind direction, so always pack a sweater.

Temperatures in spring and fall are usually moderate with low humidity making for good friction on the abundant slopers.

General

Halifax is the largest city in Nova Scotia (and the Maritimes for that matter) with a population of about 300,000 (including Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford – the Super-City). It is located on the East Coast of the province along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

Halifax is large enough to find everything  you need, it has an international airport, gear suppliers, shopping and lots accommodations to choose from.

Bouldering

Nova Scotia now sports more than 800 problems from V0 to V12 spread out over more than ten areas with more areas and problems being discovered every year. Most of the bouldering in Nova Scotia is located within 45 Minutes of Halifax and has relatively few access issues. If you want to get a good sense of the number and variety of problems Eastern Tide is a good place to start.

Many attempts were made to publish local guidebooks. Several mini-guides were published but few are still in existence. Ghislain Losier  published Halifax Bouldering in 2005 its a good resource available at Mountain Equipment Co-op and Zig TV
